Edixa Super 16 film

Super 16 film for Edixa 16 in a single aluminium can and boxed signally. The Edixa uses a film advance spool and so can use un-perforated film unlike the Rollei 16 which uses the same RADA cassettes.

Unfortunately a number of Edixa cameras are sold without the important take up spool. As this is loose and many be assumed to be supplied with the film, as it is with some roll film cameras it disappears.

The Edixa take up spool has to slots for the centre column's double prongs. The top is spring loaded and has three slots at 120 degrees to each other that the film advance winder arm engages. The base of this column has a spring washer in place which stops the spring sleeve from falling out. The outside is also not just a smooth cylinder. The spring clip which grips the film slides into the groove on the side of the tube to lock it in place. This is not a simple spool that can be copied in any garage workshop, even with a sample to work from.

The take up spool is free wheeling when the re-wind arm is raised and turned over to engage the film cartridge. The winding mechanism seems simple enough but many cameras are found with damaged winders and some with the rewind teeth broken, bent or missing. The back on all cameras before the 16MB have weak locking mechanism that wear with age and usage. The new style on the 16MB is superior and more robust.
