Introduction and contents

Kiev copied the Minolta 16, making a very close copy so that parts are interchangeable and the cassette from Minolta works in the Vega camera.  The name Vega looks like Bera on the camera and Besa on the camera manual.

In true Soviet engineering tradition they then tweaked a good design to perfection. The Kiev engineers put in a focusing lens and by reducing the diameter of the take up spool to allow for 30 pictures on a roll instead of the original 20.  This means that the Vega 2 cassette will only work in Vega 2 and later Kiev 16mm cameras. The original Vega camera, Konan and Minolta 16 cameras can not take this cassette. The Minolta cassettes and the original Kiev cassette will work in any Kiev model.
