The first Mamiya subminiature, produced in 1949 to 1950, has a fixed focus lens, called 'Cute', a 25mm f3.5-11 lens. Shutter speed B, 1/25, 1/50, 1/100. It came with two close up lenses and two filters that clipped onto the front of the lens surround. The viewfinder pops out of one end and uncovers the lens at the same time. Originally designed to use two identical cassettes the later single-piece cassette with a bridge will also work.

Type I marked B, 100, 50, 25, B. Engraved -16, Back un-marked or marked "Made in Occupied Japan" and tiny non-standard tripod socket. View finder frame is no parallax marks.

Type II marked B, 100, 50, 25. Engraved 16. Back marked "Made in Occupied Japan" Standard 1/4" tripod socket. Close focus parallax marks on the view finder frame 1.5.

Type III marked 100, 50, 25, B. Engraved 16. Back marked "Made in Occupied Japan" Standard 1/4" tripod socket. Close focus mark on the view finder frame 1.5.

Two cases have been seen with The Mamiya 16. The one shown above, with a band over the top and looped into the flap of the case and one similar to those with the later cameras, but with the embossed logo as with the original.
