The Scat was made in 1947 by the Società Costruzioni Articoli Tecnici (Technical Material Construction Society) of Rome. Italy. It is constructed of sheet metal with a rudimentary sliding frame finder, a single shutter speed and a f3.5 25mm focusing lens (1.5m to infinity); unexpected for a simple camera like this. Leather covered metal body.
The film winder is also the shutter release. On the first turn the shutter blade is cocked and at the maximum position is fired. On the return the film is wound on, using the sockets of the film.
The earliest Scats used a metal slide with holes of different sizes as apertures. This was soon dispensed with, though the intermediate cameras still carried the mounting groove for the slide, covered with a plate engraved "f=1:3.5". The later versions included yellow and green filters.
The Scat uses 16mm backed film for 7x10mm negatives with the longer side across the width of the film - a half frame 16mm camera. The two sides of the camera can be pulled off. The side with the winder allows the film cassette to be inserted. The frame inside the camera is 10x7mm. The film has to be inserted behind the lens, in front a of a backing plate. The backing plate has a small hole, as does the back of the camera. The back however is covered with the leatherette and so there is no indication on the camera how many exposures have been made.
The special cassettes were difficult to obtain and the company went out of business in about 1955.
This camera has a shaped green leather case, lined on the inside and protective shape for the winder and .
The case was made in black, green, blue and red leather.
