Introduction and contents

Leica cameras have been manufactured by Leitz (Ernst Leitz GmbH, Wetzlar) since 1923. The Ur-Leica was a prototype in 1913, but no rush for a company founded in 1849 to produce optical equipment. Leica cameras in good condition are collectorable, even the more consumer oriented compact 35mm cameras made in Japan.

Leitz have made a matchbox subminiature, a prototype 110 cameras and the C11 is almost a small APS camera. The compact 35mm cameras don't really count. As the Minox section includes the CD range it is only fair to include the Leica Z2X Jaguar to allow for comparison on how to package a classic.

Leica Z2X Jaguar Limited Edition

The standard Leica Z2X comes in titanium, black or a dashing electric blue. The Jaguar Limited Edition, in Jaguar racing car metallic green,  has been made to commemorate the launch of the Jaguar "S" class saloon car and has a limited production run of just 2000 world-wide and you have a camera that will be sort after by both Leica and Jaguar enthusiasts alike.

The LEICA Z(oom) 2X (with double focal length range) is an exceptionally elegant, handy, fully automatic 35mm-format camera with an excellent 35-70mm zoom lens. With it's reliable passive auto focus-system, the LEICA Z2X focuses quickly and precisely even at greater distances. The programmed exposure control is combined with centre-weighted metering and also fully automatic, ensuring well-balanced exposures. If considered necessary however, it is also possible to intervene manually. Flash-photography is also very easy with the LEICA Z2X: as soon as the ambient light deteriorates, the flash is activated automatically. The flash can also be switched on or off manually to influence the mood created by the light. Whether with or without flash, even the very last bits of ambient light can be effectively captured with the help of shutter speeds of up to 99s. In such cases the possibility to attach an electric cable release proves helpful to prevent camera shake. It is easy to concentrate on the composition of the image with the LEICA Z2X since everything visible in the bright new real-image viewfinder will also appear on the photograph.
