The M-1is barely larger than a credit card - 88x53x35mm and only 118 g (without film and strap).
The instruction manual comes in 6 languages, which makes it a
lot thicker than necessary. To be fair though, the English instructions (which
take up about 47 pages) are clear and concise.
The flash has a number of different modes – auto, auto with red eye reduction (RER),
always on and slow-synchro with RER. This last one, while quite useful, will
probably not be used a lot. It’s for night time outdoor shots where you would
want a flash for the foreground, but a slow shutter speed for the background.
All the information you need is displayed to you via an LCD on top of the
camera, and this displays date, time, flash mode, current film frame number as
well as battery and film status. The battery door comes off and is easy to
remove.
The Canon IXUS M-1 camera is the fourth Advanced
Photo System (APS) model in the ultra-compact range after the successful
IXUS versions where their sizes are smaller than an audiocassette. The M-1
model has a built-in 23mm wide-angle lens with a maximum aperture of f/4.8.
The focal length is equivalent to a 29mm lens in the 35mm format. Like most
APS models, the M-1 has several Magnetic Data (IX240) features that are
designed especially for the Advanced Photo System like the imprinting of
data in the finished prints, mid-roll rewind and a choice of three different
print formats of Classic, HDTV and Panorama in the same roll of film. Aside
from the standard APS features, the M-1 also has several features that are
"inherited" from Canon's 35mm point-and-shoot AF compacts like date and time
printing as well as five different short titles in five languages. |
