The Macromax 5X Loupe is probably one of the finest loupes ever made. Manufactured in the village of Wetzlar, the old home of Leica camera, this loupe was praised by photography magazines when it first arrived on the scene in the 1980's. Victor Keppler said in Modern Photography, "You'll find it a pleasure and a delight to see your crisp photos so clearly delineated." The Macromax provides full, nearly distortion free, brilliant, snappy magnification of a full 35mm frame. It is also terrific for focusing a view camera.
To understand the Macromax you need to know that it consists of a four element optical system, helicoid mounted eyepiece with +-2 dioptre correction and frosted diffuser. When Leica decided to bring out a loupe of their own, they acquired the rights to manufacture the Macromax. Today the Leica Loupe will cost you $259. or more at almost any photographic dealer.
