Krasnogorsky Neotsit instruction manual (English)

The English translation of the Technical and Handling Manual of a Soviet KGB spy camera “Neotsit” consists of 39 pages and includes 8 illustrations. To find a Russian copy is quite a rare opportunity. Here you are having a Russian copy and my English translation, 78 pages in total. I spent a month to make it and offer it for less than the cost of the translation of one page.

I have made the translated manual looking as close to the original as possible. The Russian manual was originally was prepared in June 1983, amendments were inserted in 1985, and the copy I was making a translation from was released from Krasnogorsk manufacturing plant in 1986. The manual was classified. It was made on blueprint paper. Each page was signed by a person who made a copy. It also shows the names of persons who prepared it. There is a blue seal in a lower right corner of the rear cover on inside surface: “1 section 1986”. First section was a so called “secret section,” preventing compromising of a secret information. Word “Neotsit” is quite unusual word in Russian language and has two meanings, known only to specialists:

– neocyte – a non-mature form of leucocyte and

neocyttus rhomboidalis – bone fish

Here is the wording from the manual:

In the manual a camera “Neotsit” was called “a manufactured article” and only in rare occasions as “a camera”. I think it will be interesting find for collectors, researchers etc. This camera uses 27 mm wide film slit from 35 mm non-perforated film.

The manuals are available direct from Valery Zakharov (hrndnvalery@msn.com), Herndon, VA, USA for 49USD plus postage.
