The 16 De Luxe lacked the character of the earlier 16 Automatic and the mechanical excellence of the the earlier models. In 1962 Mamiya combined features of both the 16 Automatic and 16 De Luxe and introduced the 16 EE (mimicking the name also used by Minolta and Yashica).

The same over all dimensions of the 16 Automatic it has a coupled matched needle selenium meter and so the return of the pop up optical view finder.  It has a focusing lens, cold shoe, tripod socket on the base, built-in sliding filter, but it replaced the yellow filter with a  neutral density (4X, 2 f-stops) filter. The PC socket moved to the opposite end of the camera from the cold shoe.
